Feeding Your Hatchling Ball Python

Feeding Your Hatchling Ball Python

Feeding Your Hatchling Ball Python

After hatching a Ball Python will get all of its nutrients from the yolk.  This will sustain it for the first few days of its life.  Once you Baby Ball Python has finished shedding its skin at between 5 and 7 days you can try feeding it for the first time.  If it will not feed it may still be full from the yolk, so give it time and do not try to force feed it.  It will need to learn how to feed.  Food should be offered to your hatchling every five to seven days for the first six months of it life.  Make sure to monitor that your Ball Python has fed and if this does not happen within the first three to four weeks contact your breeder or a vet.

Now what to feed your hatchling?  You need to be offering pinkies, fuzzies or at a maximum hoppers.  Please bear in mind that Ball pythons swallow their prey whole and do not have the ability to tolerate frozen food.  Thus, your choice of mice or African Soft Fur needs to be at room temperature. If your young Python starts to show signs that they are hungry between feeds, then try a slightly large size.  We do not recommend the use of live prey as there have been incidents or cornered prey turning aggressive.

This should give your hatchling a good start to life.  Remember to choose a quality produce, like the ones available on our website at www.reptilerewards.co.uk where all of our rodents are UK bred to very high standards.
